My last post this year of 2011

To be honest, I will be glad when this year ends. It hasn't been a bad year as such, but I am ready now to say goodbye to a somewhat strange year and welcome in 2012. I am hoping that 2012 will be a good year for my family and friends and not to sound too selfish but I hope it is a good year for me too. I'm not that mushy about new year as such but I am hoping it will be the beginning of the fresh start I need. Not working for a month now has given me time to think about some of the things I want out of my life in 2012. I need to change my attitude and some aspects of my life need an overall. I'm hoping the changes I am thinking about will be achieveable goals/targets rather than the proverbial resolutions that we so often make come the 1st of January and are forgotten about by the 30th of January.

My first goal that I want to share now (ahead of the 1st) concerns this blog. Firstly, some of you may have noticed I have changed the design template. I could have left that until the 1st but I feel that changing it a day before leads me into the direction I want to head into come midnight tomorrow night.

My aspiration for this blog is that I visit it more often and share more. Currently I have only been posting very sporadically. This is mainly because I haven't felt very creative and thus I haven't wanted to share much on the blog. I think. partly it is due to the lull I have been feeling post being made redundant. I haven't settled into a routine yet and to be honest I've been really lazy. Projects that have been swimming in my head for months just haven't come to fruition. JYC is non existant and I hardly made any Christmas cards this year. Thus today, I have given myself a little talking to and said to myself this. "That is all in the past. Just move on from today and start again tomorrow afresh with a new attitude".

My goal now is to post on a more regular basis. I'm not giving myself a large target such as every day as I know I will not do that, but I am sure I can at least post a couple of times a week. Plus I am hoping that I will still continue with the Colour Blog Hop once a month and 10 on the 10th. I'll be realistically happy if I can at least post 10 times a month.

My next post will be on the 1st where I will share some other apsirations for the year 2012

Colour Blog Hop December 2011

Welcome to Decembers Colour Blog Hop. If you have arrived from here you are in the right place
I apologise for my lateness. I was playing Santa and visiting family and I was later than I anticipated.

As it is Christmas, I thought I would show a Christmas layout. This picture was taken in DisneyWorld, Florida in January 2010. AJ and I had a belated honeymoon to Florida in the January after getting married in September 2009 and we were lucky to arrive just before they took down all the Christmas decorations and trees. Disney at Christmas time is a very magical place so were glad we had a little glimpse of it.

I've tried to stick quite close to the colour scheme but I have added a hint of green to make it look more Christmassy. Hope you like.

Please go here for the next particpant in this blog hop and hoping that we can continue this blog hop in 2012. Happy Holidays!!!!!

Good Evening from Pickle Land.

Hope to speak to you very soon.

November round up- Scrapbooking retreats ahoy!!

November has been a strange yet good month. I have been made redundant from my job in local government (my last day at work was Friday 25th - official day of leaving is tomorrow 30th). And though I'm worried about finding another job, I'm definitely looking forward to having some free time (whilst looking for another job) and doing the many things on my list of things to do - like sort out my craft room, Christmas shopping, JYC 2011, a good clear out and doing a little cooking/baking.

Leading up to last Friday was a mix of emotions and though I am not sad to leave my place of work (it feels the right time to leave), I am sad not to be working with some people. But you can not stay in a place just for the people, and I've got to do the right thing for me for once.

However, November has been a really good month on the craft front. I firstly attended the Sarah's Cards Retreat in Warrington (see picture below with two lovely ladies Mandy and Mell) and then this weekend I attended the Scrapbook Bloggers weekend in Coalport, Shropshire (see main picture). I have met up with some lovely talented women and I am so inspired at the moment.. Thus I am going to use this spare time of mine to the best of my crafting/scrapping abilities whilst I'm in the mood. On both occassions I have scrapped and made cards as well as made friends. I'll be posting my layouts in the coming weeks to show you

Anyway I'll end now. Good evening from Pickle Land

Hope to speak to you very soon

10 on the 10th - November 2011

It's 10 on the 10th day and I thought I would like to share 10 of my favourite things/obsessions of the moment. So in no particular order

1. My absolutely fab friend Chris (pictured with AJ and I on our wedding day) who's birthday it is today. Happy Birthday Chris - with lots of love

2) AJ and I have a slight obsession with Starbucks and Starbucks mugs. We started abit of a collection of mugs when we met 4 years ago and we must have at least 20 now. I'm going to have to empty another kitchen cupboard to house them all. We are that obsessed that on the 3rd November we had to get the latest Christmas mug and thus decided to be late for work and go to our local store to purchase. Also we just had to have a Gingerbread latte.

3 & 4) Orla Kiely and John Lewis. I absolutely adore Orla Kiely and have just began to start collecting a few items and have put a few on my Christmas list too. I am so glad that you can get Orla Kiely items from my favourite store at the moment - John Lewis

5) Nandos - another favourite of mine and AJ's. We don't go that often, but when we do it is a lovely treat

6 & 7) Patterned paper. Loving American Crafts Amy Tan and Chap collections at the moment. Also loving Shimelle Paper Party class too

8) The photo doesn't give my new red glasses justice, but I'm loving them

9) Lush Designs. I love this store that I came across in Greenwich earlier on in the year. I just want to buy everything

10) And finally of course I am loving my family. Love to AJ, my brother R who has just started a new job and my lovely cats Kiwi and Willow

Welcome to Octobers Colour Blog Hop

If you have arrived from here you are in the right place

This months challenge is autumn/fall colours themed. Unfortunately for me I have been without internet for nearly a month(I'm sending this at my brothers) so I could not check the actual colours, so from memory I think this incorporates the colours picked for this month. Also due to a very busy schedule I have been unable to do any scrapbooking the past couple of weeks, so hope you don't mind but I have used an old scrapbook page I have previously published on this blog that I hope uses some of the colours.

please continue onto Jo's blog now

Getting back into the swing of things

Firstly can I thank all that participated in yesterdays Colour Blog Hop. I am finding these monthly challenges really fun. I have seen all the participants entries and they are all fab. I am, however, having problems with adding comments. So if you haven't received a comment from me, I'm sorry and I'm hoping to sort the problem out if I can. I think it may have to do with changing my e-mail address on Goggle and it not recognising it properly.

Secondly, after my wonderful holiday ( some photos to follow later) I am feeling refreshed and in a more creative frame of mind. I have so many projects I want to do and complete, and I have so many ideas. I just need to get myself organised abit more and then allow myself more time to create. I love this hobby of mine so I should dedicate all I can to it.

I thought I would show you the card I made for a friend who is going to give it to her aunt for her birthday. The image is a Lili of the Valley stamp (I am starting a little collection of the LOTV stamps of late) which I can't remember the name of at the moment coloured in with Pro-Markers. I have used my Martha Stewart butterfly stamp that my brother R kindly got me for my recent birthday and the lettering is American Crafts thickers.

I hope you like. I'm trying to build up my card making confidence and this card is the first card I have been commissioned to make. Abit scary, but my friend loved it.

Anyway, hopefully I will be back later to show you some photos from my holiday once I have decided from the very many I have are the best ones to highlight for you.

Have a good day and I will speak to you very soon

Welcome friends to the September Colour Bloghop as organised by Amy. If you have arrived from here you are in the right place. Below is also the full list of participants this month

Can't believe a whole month has passed since the last one, and indeed it was my last post. Since then I've been to Kew Gardens in London, went on holiday to Slovenia and Italy, and it was 2nd wedding anniversary and my 37th birthday. More info on Kew and my holiday coming up in next few weeks.

This months colour scheme incorporates, yellow, pink, turquiose, mustard and black. I decided to use a black background to make the other colours pop off the page. I have used embellishments from the Make and Create Shop Spring to Life Kit ( I think it came out in April this year). The colours are absolutely perfect for this challenge. For the pink lettering I used colorbok Flavia range (an old kit I purchased years ago), yellow lettering is Carla Bell Pepper from Bella Blvd and the other lettering is Faded Blue by Cosmo Cricket.

See you next month when we have a Autumn/Fall theme with a choice of colour schemes

Please head here for the next participant in this blog hop

This months participants are (in order of the blog hop) are:

Have a great rest of the day

Look forward to seeing you all soon

Thursday, 11 August 2011

As promised, some holiday pictures from our holiday to La Mata in Spain, that we took in July. We had a lovely relaxing time and La Mata is a charming, little town by the sea, with a beautiful beach and restful parkland. Not too touristy which is to my liking, and I'm so lucky that AJ's family own an apartment here.

Hope you have a good day

My craft space project

As a scrapbooker and card maker, I'm terribly disorganised and I am finding it increasingly hard to get motivated to scrap or make cards because I can't seem to find what I need when I want it. My craft space at the moment is in the dining room with all stash in various bags, boxes and tins. There is absolutely no organisation to anything and I really can't say what I have. I sometimes open up a bag to discover something I had bought months or even years ago - like yesterday I found some gorgeous cat stamps from Penny Black that I purchased on my honeymoon two years ago.

This disorganisation is stunting my creativity and thus, I have decided "Enough is Enough!". It is time to get organised and create a permanent space to use solely for craft,

I am fortunate enough to have two spare bedrooms - one for AJ's stuff and the other allocated for all my stuff. However, my room has become a dumping ground. From clothes to an old television. The room is actually a fairly decent size, but you wouldn't know that if you looked into it at the moment. It is a complete and utter mess.

Over the past weekend, we removed the old TV and put into our newly tidied conservatory (another room that had become a dumping ground), and now I have enough room to move around and start seeing what I have in the room. My intention is to go through everything, chuck lots of stuff away and be in a position to get some extra storage and the organise my craft stash, so finally I will know what I have or not have as the case may be. I want to be able to display all my lovely punches and embossing powders and stamps. I want all my papers in one place and have all my Thickers together rather than looking in several bags to find the font I want.

I know it may take a while and I'm sure I will get distracted along the way - finding stash I had completed forgotten about, or reading old copies of Scrapbook Inspirations. But I am determined to go it. With a little help from my brother R, we are making a start tomorrow. I have taken a couple of days off work whilst AJ goes to the England/India test match, and hopefully in the next few weeks the room will start to resemble the craft room I have imagined. Organised, practical, pretty and above all a space where I can find inspiration and start creating more. My little escape from this world.

I'll take some photos when it is finally finished to show you, so watch this space.

Time flies

Can't believe it is August already. What happened to July? It appears to have disappeared in front of my eyes.

Apart from our holiday, July hasn't been a particular good month for me. Nothing major, but still not fun.

I applied for a internal job vacancy, and didn't get. So I'm still being made redundant in November which is seriously worrying me now that it is only four months away.

Our washing machine finally blew up - a few days after coming back from holiday when we've just spent our money so we have had to get another one

A trip I was looking forward to was cancelled. and I've done absolutely no scrap pages or cards or anything craft related.

I'm hoping August is a better month for me. Got a trip to Kew Gardens to look forward to and a party towards the end of the month. I actually created a scrap book page this evening, so will photograph and put on blog soon, so already I've broken my scrapbook hiatus.

Good evening from Pickle Land

I'm back

Just to tell you I'm back from a much needed break away to Spain.

Have had a lovely time and hope to show some photos and subsequent scrapbook pages in the coming weeks.

It's good to be home, but definitely not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. But back to reality I suppose.

Discovering the story behind the picture

Following on from Finding my scrapping mojo, journalling on layouts is becoming more important to me of late, as I am discovering how important it is to preserve my memories rather than just embellishing a picture.

When starting out scrapbooking a few years, I was only comfortable adding a few stickers here and there, keeping the layout minimal and just adding a date, place or name of person, and nothing much else. I was happy with that at the time as I was finding my feet, and even now just adding a date or persons name alongside a photo with no journalling is fine by me if the mood takes me and the photo being used speaks for itself. However, no I'm a tiny bit more confident in using lots of embellishments and about highlighting the story behind the photograph.

I want to preserve my memories more, to say how I felt about a particular incidence or place. I want to share my views of the moment (and about the past), and to journal a snapshot of my life now.

The Scrapbooking blog world is full of extremely talented scrapbookers who I admire greatly (and far too many to list individually). Alot of the layouts I like the most have journalling on their pages, beautifully written telling the story of the photograph used. The journalling doesn't have to be long, but they are really engaging and have really inspired me of late to produce my own journalling of late.

Thus, I wish I was this much into the scrapbooking hobby when I was planning and organising my own wedding in 2009. I so wish I had kept a journalling diary so that now nearly two years later I wouldn't be struggling to remember every last detail from my wedding day and all the months of planning etc. Laura of Lazy Dynamics is a scrapbooker I admire and has created many layouts of her wedding, preperations etc from her wedding last year, and her journalling really highlights beautifully how she felt about her special day. She has created her layouts quickly whilst her memories are fresh in her mind. My memories, because I didn't journal and keep a diary at the time are very much after thoughts and in hind sight. There's nothing wrong with that of course, but I just wish I had thought more about keeping these memories for my scrapbook pages now that this hobby has consumed my life.

The same is said for holidays I have taken over the last few years. I've got some lovely photos begging to be scrapped, but I am finding it extremely hard to remember details now. Again, I wish I had taken a scrapbookers view of my holiday and collected more memorabilia along the way and again wrote a travel diary to capture my holiday whilst fresh in my mind. This was expecially noticable when I tried scrapbooking a layout from a holiday in Canada in 2005. It took me absolutely ages to recall the place names and in which part of Canada it was. I can remember certain things, but the memories are becoming more blurred and escaping me more as the years go by.

This year, however, for a forth coming holiday, I am taking inspiration from Ali Edwards, Kelly Purkey, Amy Tangerine and Shimelle Laine to name but a few who all create beautiful travel journals whilst actually vacating so that they have very little to do when they come back home and whilst the memories are new. I have already started to create a travel journal to take away with me so I can make a start and hopefully have a journal complete within a week or so of actually coming home rather than waiting 7 years to remember things to capture on a layout.

I am still finding a happy balance in my journalling (and I suppose writing this blog is a form of journalling too). I know it takes practice, it is about finding my comfort zone and also finding a little confidence too in order to share details of my life with others who may view my layouts.

I'm actually enjoying writing again. I used to write all the time when I was a child and for some reason that is probably so deeply hidden inside me, I just stopped. By making an effort to journal on my layouts and to some respects write on this blog, it has renewed a deep need to start writing again. So by taking the approach of finding the story behind the photograph I'm going to just do that, and killing three birds with one stone. Making my layout mean more to those who may view them ( on this blog or in person), helping me to preserve my memories more creatively and to enjoy writing again. I am so enjoying the journey at the moment.

Finding my scrap mojo

I would consider myself fairly new to scrapbooking. Even though I've been doing scrapbooking for a few years, it has only been in the last year that I feel I have found my scrapbooking mojo.

I still feel as if I'm not confident in my layout, but here are a few layouts I'm fairly pleased with.

Gretna Green, So Peaceful and Mirabelle Gardens all feature embellishments from various kits from a favourite of mine - The Make and Create Shop. Cinderella, Lake Garda and Peggys Cove all feature parts of various monthly kits from Sarah's Cards.
