Craft room(s), cross stitch and scrapbooking

Over the past few years, I have built up a small fortunes worth of lovely craft goodies - papers, embellishments, pens, craft tools and equipment etc and because I seem to collect but not use, I've got to the point where it is spilling into several rooms, and I'm not sure where everything is and also not exactly sure of what I actually have got.

Hence I have set myself the task of going through everything, organise it better and ultimately start using up what I've got. This is why I have transferred alot of my stuff into the dining room as the table is the largest surface for me to use and I have been doing my scrapbooking there of late. I've even dug up my cuttlebug and cricuit which have hardly been used and sadly gathering dust.

AJ is very understanding in letting me take over our house with all my crafty goodies. He says as long as I am happy, he doesn't mind. He incidently has sole use to our little box room where he can play his computer games and go up and watch telly if he wants abit of me time.

Also another craft project I'm doing at the moment is a cross stitch for our friends Dave and Kim (Dave was best man at our wedding). They get married on the 14th August and as you can see I've hardly started it. I really must spend some time over the next few weeks and get on with it as want it done by mid July so I can get in framed. I'll update how I'm going over the next few weeks.

I'm also still working on scapbooking my wedding and honeymoon, and anything else that takes my fancy. I've also got to make a wedding card for Dave and Kim, a 25th Wedding anniversary card for some friends of ours in July and also make more cards in general, as I have all the goodies to make them and I still go out and buy shop bought ones (How naughty of me!!)Also my crafty friend Chris reminded me to start making Christmas cards now ready for December. She began making her Christmas cards in February- how good is she!!

As you can see I'm quite busy on the craft front but loving my burst of crafty energy at the moment. Every spare moment I have I dedicate to something to do with my craft. Whether it is blogging and surfing the net, reading magazines and craft books, actually scrapbooking or just dreaming about it. It is just a shame I have to go to work in between!!!

Good evening from Pickle Land and hope to speak to you soon . Lesley xx

A Little about Me

To give you a little insight into what I like, I would like to share a few of my favourites

Books

I love reading but I must confess that I haven't read as much as I would like this last year or so but I am determined to address this and have challenged myself to read at least one book a month for the next year. I'll keep you updated of my progress - if any.

These are a list of some of my favourite books or authors

I love Adriana Trigiani books, and have been a fan since her first book Big Stone Gap.

Other writers I love is Amy Tan and Fannie Flagg. All write so beautifully and in my head, their books are like mini movies.

I have to add Jane Austen to my list- I'm not really one for the classics, but she is an exception.

Other books I have enjoyed is the Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, To Kill a Mockingbird ( a favourite since reading this at High School in English) and a book recommended to me by my Mother in Law called The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.

Movies

Some of my favourite movies- those that I can watch time and time again are:

  • It's a Wonderful Life- happy memories of watching this classic movie with my Mom when I was young, and also recently with my Mother In Law
  • The Mirror Has Two Faces

  • You've Got Mail

  • The Wedding Planner

  • Any of the Shrek Movies

  • Field Of Dreams

  • Anything by Disney - I'm a big kid at heart

Food and Drink

I love my food (hence on a diet). Here are some of my favourites at the moment

  • Curry - I just love curry but at moment trying not to have too often

  • Chinese Food - currently experimenting with the help of Ching He Heung books and my local Win Yip supermarket
  • Starbucks coffee - and hot chocolate - with lashing of cream of course ( a real occasional treat for AJ and myself)
  • Strawberries - at this time of year they are at their most flavoursome

  • Mango Juice - drinking loads at the moment

Destinations

I haven't travelled much really, but here are some of my favourite places

  • Canada - have been twice and would love to go again and take AJ
  • New York

  • Italy

  • Austria - AJ and I spent our first holiday together in St Johann in Tirol
  • The Lake District - will always have special place in my heart as that is where we got married and where we spent a few days on honeymoon - see pictures below

Have a good evening and hope to speak soon x

The Ickle Pickles

If you had asked me a couple of years ago if I was a cat or dog person, I would most definitely have said dog. However that all changed thanks to a cat called Fudge.
Fudge started to visit us in the summer of 2008. We knew he wasn't a stray, but was visiting us because his owners has a new kitten and he felt left out, and we obliged him by giving him abit of attention and fuss. Fudge made us think that having a cat wouldn't be a bad idea and to the delight of my friend who volunteers at the local Cats Protection League we decided to get a cat. Our friend recommended to us, that as we work all day, it may be a good idea to get two cats so that they would keep each other company, so hence we decided to get two cats.

When we visited the Cat shelter, a little black and white cat who the shelter called Molly who we decided we were going to call Kiwi came and greeted us and instantly we fell in love with her. She had a little 3 month old kitten who the shelter called Diddy who we decided to name Willow ( Molly had been abandoned by someone who left her on the road with a can opener and a tin of food along with her kittens, but when she was picked up, only one kitten was left), and as we agreed not to seperate them, we adopted them from the shelter.

We absolutely adore our two little cats. Generally they are well behaved and each melts our hearts everytime we see them.
Now if you ask me if I'm a cat person I'd definitely say I'm a cat person.

Starting out

Last Sunday I decided to stop dreaming of setting up a blog and actually do it.

I had been looking at the link for Blogging for Scrapbookers at Shimelle.com for ages and even though as usual I was too late to enrol when it was live, decided that the course would at least springboard me into setting up "Adventures in Pickle Land" and that I could go through the prompts in my own time and at my own pace whilst I am finding my feet.

Hence the last few days I've been doing a few scrapbook pages that I can add to my blog, took some pictures requested in the course of which much mayhem was created as Kiwi and Willow thought it was a game and started lying on my scrapbook pages and trying to get in the photos. Very cute though.

This pic signifies the start of my journey. As you can see, it shows my folder that I am keeping my notes in, a notepad, my laptop, a scrapbook page and some papers and embellishments I've been using of late.

As mentioned I have also been doing a few scrapbook pages the last few days
Last September I got married to AJ and am only now getting round to scrapbooking some of the photos. Here are a few I've been working on

.
The papers and most of the embellishments used are from Cosmic Cricket Ever After range

I'm not used to photographing my scrapbook pages yet so please forgive my dining room table as the background. Any tips on photographing pages would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I thought I'd introduce you to Kiwi and Willow. I absolutely adore these two beautiful crazy cats and they have bought me such joy since I got them in 2008.

Kiwi is the black and white cat, and Willow is the tabby. To me they are the most beautiful Ickle Pickles in the world.
Good evening from Pickle Land and hope to speak to you soon

Welcome to Adventures in Pickle Land

Hi. My name is Lesley and this is my very first blog page on Adventures in Pickle Land.
I am a scrapbooker, cardmaker and now novice blogger, and after much encouragement from my wonderful husband AJ, have taken the plunge to share my adventures in craft and in life in general (not that I think it is that interesting - ha ha).
I am just building up my confidence to show some of my scrapbook pages and cards (once I can work out how to download them from my camera onto my laptop) and hope that other people may enjoy them too (and not just AJ- I'm sure he says they a great just to keep me happy).

I wouldn't say I have any particular style at the moment as I'm fairly new to scrapbooking, but I am enjoying myself all the same and am always inspired by magazines, other blogs and everyday life.

I am currently scrapping a wedding album - AJ and I got married in the beautiful Lake District on a very wet day in September 2009 and hoping to show some pages soon. Plus I've got our honeymoon to DisneyWorld to scrap, plus my beautiful cats Kiwi and Willow and much more too.
So much to do and not enough hours in the day!!!

Good evening from Pickle Land and hope to speak soon

Lesley

NB : If you are wondering why Pickle Land, one of my pet names for AJ is Mr Pickle, hence I'm Mrs Pickle, the cats are the Ickle Pickles and we live in Pickleland - Sad I know, but fun all the same.
